Dual Provider Inline Switch

 

 

Product Description:
The Inline Switch from Suttle allows two providers' service to be controlled at the premise distribution device through a simple, customer-operable switch. The Inline Switch eliminates the need for service truck rolls and jack re-wiring when the service is changed by the home owner. Intended for Star Wired/Home Run/Daisy Chain with a distribution device applications.

 

 

 

Application:


This Inline Switch is designed for a competitive service provider to distribute voice service through a home's existing wiring. The Inline Switch must be terminated at the distribution device where the incoming wire enters the customer's premise. The incumbent service provider's incoming wires and the premise wires are terminated to the blunt cut leads using the butt splice connectors (Figure 1). All jacks in the premise will be controlled through this Inline Switch.

 

The Inline Switch may be integrated with an alarm dialing device (Figure 2).

Wiring Instructions:

  1. Mount the Dual Provider Inline Switch near the distribution device (see fig.1). If there is an alarm-dialing device the Dual Provider Inline Switch must be located prior to the alarm interface (see fig.2).

  2. Identify the incumbent telephone service line bringing the existing telephone service to the distribution device.

  3. It is highly recommended that you disconnect the incumbent telephone service line at the demarcation point before proceeding.

  4. Cut the incumbent telephone service line and strip the outer jacket off each end leaving the insulated wires. The wires for line one are typically red and green (occasionally blue and white/blue). The wires for line two are typically yellow and black (occasionally orange and white/orange). Check the premise distribution device to identify which wires are used for line one and line two.

  5. Using the butt splices provided, splice the wires on the incumbent telephone service line and the wires on the switch labeled "COMPANY A" (see fig.1).

  6. Using the butt splices provided, splice the wires from the premise distribution device and the wires on the switch labeled "PREMISE WIRING" ( see fig.1 ).

    Alternative : Remove the wires from the distribution device and terminate the premise wires on the switch directly to the distribution device.

  7. Plug the incumbent telephone service line back in at the demarcation point and set the switch to the proper position (Company B for EMTA, and Company A for incumbent). Check to see that the telephone is working properly.

 

Wiring for alarm-dialing device - Cable Company Installers Only
If there is an alarm-dialing device or a jack wired for this purpose (RJ31X), the EMTA will need to be plugged into a dedicated telephone outlet that is wired directly to the switch. This outlet may no longer be used for a telephone.

  1. Identify the line servicing the EMTA outlet and remove it from the distribution device.

  2. Strip the jacket off leaving the insulated wires. Using the butt splices provided, splice the wires from the line and the wires on the switch labeled "COMPANY B" (see fig.2).
