Considerations in VDSL/VDSL2 Implementation

August 3rd, 2010

Today’s service providers face more competition than ever before. The boundaries separating services (voice, data, and video) are disappearing and customers seeking those services are being courted by telephone, cable, satellite, and wireless providers, each of which offers some or all of the components users want. The days of the single service provider are clearly numbered, and competition from providers who can deliver a full slate of services can be a very real threat to an existing subscriber base.

VDSL2 technology can be part of the solution for delivering these services over a home’s existing infrastructure. Download our free white paper title "Considerations in VDSL/VDSL2 Implementation" for a brief overview of VDSL2 and its application.

ARRA Compliance Now Designated Online

May 28th, 2010

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) imposes some specific requirements on the origin of materials and goods used in projects receiving stimulus money. Section 1605, referred to as the Buy American provision, specifically states that funds from ARRA must only be used where “all iron, steel and manufactured goods used…are produced in the U.S. or in specific foreign countries signatory to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and World Trade Organization (WTO)”

Suttle is proud to say that more than 70% of our products qualify as “Made in America” for ARRA projects. To make it easy to find these products, we’ve added the ARRA logo (example link) to those products that qualify under this designation on our website.

Suttle First to Offer Plastic Optical Fiber “Jack”

March 19th, 2010

Firecomms, a leading developer of highspeed Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) transceivers, announces that it has licensed its OptoLock® interconnect system to Suttle, Inc., a leading supplier of communication connectivity products for the telecom and datacom industries worldwide. OptoLock, an easy-to-use, low-cost housing for instant termination of bare Plastic Optical Fiber (POF), provides plugless terminations that allow for simpler, quicker connections of communications and infotainment network devices.

“Suttle is excited to offer the first commercially available POF to POF passive OptoLock wall plate adapter system, which we’ve added to our SpeedStar line of modular connectivity,” says Bill Heuer, senior product manager. “Firecomms has pioneered the development of POF as a low-cost alternative for copper cabling in home networking, which we look forward to support.”

“With the rapid adoption of OptoLock by an increasing number of equipment providers, we are pleased to license our technology to Suttle, Inc., a well established telecom vendor that has been supplying communication equipment to companies worldwide since 1910,” says Lawrence Thorne, Firecomms’ vice president of sales and marketing, the Americas. “Suttle, like all suppliers of OptoLock products, will manufacture its product based on a common mechanical specification for the fiber interface.”

Suttle’s new SpeedStar OptoLock wall plate adapter system will be available in Q2 2010. Due to its ease of use, large core tolerances, and low costs, POF is enjoying substantial growth in home network and point-to-point interconnection. The annual worldwide POF market is estimated to be worth over $2.5 billion” in 2011, according to market research by Information Gatekeepers.

Suttle Joins HomePNA™ Alliance

January 21st, 2010

Suttle announces that it has officially joined the HomePNA™ alliance and will begin shipping HomePNA™ certified products beginning in Q2 of this year.

“Suttle is excited to join the HomePNA™ alliance as an adopter and looks forward to continued development of products that make it easy for service providers and consumers alike to install and maintain home networks,” said Jay Kilby, Dir of Marketing at Suttle. “HomePNA technology complements our full line of high-quality triple-play home networking connectivity products.”

According to a recent study by Parks Associates, a service provider-deployed home networking solution is among the key value-added features that correlate to happier customers.¹ The HomePNA alliance has also found that Telcos that have deployed HomePNA generally experience higher fixed line retention, higher ARPU, and greater customer satisfaction.²

Created to ensure the development of a consumer-friendly, low-cost, high-speed “existing-wires” solution for home networking over phone wires and coax cables, HomePNA technology has been standardized by the ITU G.hn. In addition to data rates up to 320Mbps, HomePNA provides guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) and remote management and diagnostics capability, enabling service providers to meet – and drive – the growing demand for new services such as IPTV and VOIP.
